Predominant in the current work is the overwhelming tendency to navigate that place of In between. There long has been the reflex to linger the line of abstraction and representation. Finally, now, mostly accepted as a given. The altar, a place between the great beyond and everyday life seems a natural kinship to the studio. A safe space to connect. That place I embrace the threshold of neither here nor there, but, maybe both?
Investigations in paint show a repeating cast of characters. A narrative forms, as it grows stronger and more definitive I more clearly psychoanalyze each characters place. Then, I lose interest in their meaning. Abstraction takes over and formal art qualities offer me a reprieve from my own well meaning meanderings. I hope and have faith a painting creates some grand thing, a force in its own right.
